About/CV

Raised in Cleveland, Ohio, Alexa has always possessed a passion for all things art. She was constantly crafting and creating all throughout her childhood and into her teenage years. In 2017, Alexa graduated as valedictorian of her high school class at Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy. During her time there, Alexa channeled her creative energies by creating her Etsy shop, For It Is Written, in order to fund a missions trip to the Dominican Republic. Some of her products included acrylic paintings, digital prints, and knit teddy bears.

It was after her trip to the DR that Alexa began her personal battle with undiagnosed neurologic complications. This greatly altered the way in which she views and experiences the world, affecting everything she creates. Because of this, an overarching goal of her work is to represent the complex relationship between mourning and joy as non-mutually exclusive states. Her creative practice digs for the deeper realities in life, challenging herself to depict new ways of viewing the world that represent her unique experiences.

From 2017-2019, Alexa attended Moody Bible Institute in Chicago for her freshman and sophomore years of college as a Biblical Languages major. During her time there, she studied ancient Greek, archeology, the material culture and geography of the Ancient Near East, hermeneutics, and theology. Alexa served as leader of the weekly life group at her dorm, encouraging her fellow students to practice living in community and learning from the experiences of others.

It was not until 2019 that Alexa decided to pursue her lifelong passion of being a professional artist. She transferred to Bowling Green State University her junior year of college, where she currently is studying as a Digital Arts major in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program. In her current art practice, Alexa continues to lean into her studies of the Ancient Near East, finding deeply rooted connections to the history of art in these cultures and how they fundamentally changed society through what they created.

Since attending Bowling Green State University, Alexa’s works have been featured in several shows. Her print Of Mother Nature and Men was featured in BGSU’s ArtsX in 2019. Her works The Edge and Mustang Strong were exhibited during the month of December in 2019 at the Findley Art League’s Art of Your Hometown show. Alexa was recently accepted into BGSU’s juried 69th Annual Undergraduate Exhibition, her featured works being Of Mother Nature and Men, Torn, Experiencing Disease through Monochromaticity, A Sense of Legacy, and Uncatty Resemblance. Uncatty Resemblance was also exhibited by the IU Kokomo Downtown Gallery’s The Elephant in the Room Virtual Exhibition. Her work Dust Bunny Petting Zoo was accepted into the Expressions online show by the Marin Society of Arts. Most recently, she was awarded and invited to BGSU’s President’s Suite Exhibition, which will feature her photos A Sense of Legacy and Uncatty Resemblance from May 2020 to May of 2021.
